The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein’s ADAM Program Is Transforming Pediatric Aerodigestive Care

The Aerodigestive Program at Montefiore (ADAM) addresses the complex needs of children with aerodigestive disorders. ADAM provides comprehensive, coordinated and patient-centered care for children with airway, esophageal and swallowing issues.

Multidisciplinary Evaluation

ADAM’s monthly clinic features simultaneous evaluations by specialists in pediatric otolaryngology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, and speech-language pathology. Unlike other aerodigestive program models, this approach involves a concurrent, multidisciplinary evaluation, allowing all four specialties to assess the patient together in one comprehensive visit. This enables immediate, integrated care plans and enhances diagnostic accuracy and treatment quality.

Same-Day Assessments

ADAM offers same-day assessments for airway and swallowing functions. When clinically indicated, patients can undergo flexible fiberoptic laryngoscopy, pulmonary function testing and clinical swallowing assessments (such as Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of SwallowFEES) during their visit. This expedites diagnosis and treatment, providing timely insights for patient care.

Expedited Scheduling for Combined Procedures

For comprehensive evaluation and treatment, many children require multiple endoscopic procedures under anesthesia. ADAM efficiently combines and coordinates these procedures to avoid multiple exposures to anesthesia, thereby reducing risks and enhancing the overall patient experience.
